It’s Time To Replace Your Windows When…
There are more than a few telltale signs out there that you may need to replace your windows sooner rather than later. Here are just a few of them:
- Your Heating And Cooling Bills Continue To Rise
Do you ever look at your utility bills and think “wow I was paying so much less than this just last year!” If the answer is yes, you should walk around your house and stand next to each window in the room. Can you feel a draft or cooler temperatures the closer you get to your window? If that happens, you are wasting heat in the winter, and cool air in the summer and should seriously consider window replacements.
- You Have Trouble Opening And Closing Your Windows
Although this one is fairly obvious, it is overlooked by too many homeowners nowadays. Every window in your home should open and close effortlessly. There should be no need to force or prop them open, and they should close without you having to throw out your shoulder or bring out the hammer. While wood windows are notorious for this, other materials warp and flex as well. If your windows require any effort at all to open or close, it is time to replace them.
- You Can Hear Every Sound Outside Your Home
Can you hear even the slightest sounds outside when standing next to your window? I’m talking about the cricket across the street or the car driving down the neighborhood. The sound waves produced by objects outside will naturally reach your window, but an energy efficient window will absorb these sound waves rather then just let them right into your home. A good window will be relatively soundproof, so if you’re ever unable to sleep due to the outside noise, it’s probably time to replace your windows.
- You Are Unhappy With The Way Your Home Looks
When driving down the street, is your house the biggest eyesore in the neighborhood? Maybe that’s a little extreme, but are you ever unhappy with the appearance of your home? A great way to give your home a new investment is a stylish new set of money saving, energy efficient replacement windows. Conservation Construction’s exclusive, energy efficient, beautiful windows of every style will leave you unable to recognize the gorgeous house you live in. Whether you want to replace the same types of windows, or change it up with a different style, there are many options to give your home an upgrade in appearance with just replacement windows.
Whether you are noticing all four of these aspects to your home or just one, you may want to start thinking about some window upgrades. There are many other factors and reasons you may want to upgrade, but these are some of the most common for even the most basic homeowner. If you realize that it’s time for a change to your home (whether it be windows, siding, or even doors), you may want to take care of it as soon as possible!

I never took into account that an energy efficient window will absorb most sound before you hear it. I live in an older home and you can quite easily hear the street traffic. I think that new windows could really benefit my family, especially since most of us have to work while it’s dark outside.

I never really thought about being able to hear everything moving outside was a sign that we should replace them. One of the things that bothers me about my current home is that we can hear every car driving past and doors opening and closing. I think that it might be best for us to start considering getting a few of them replaced. Thank you for your advice.

What you said about hearing the sound outside is time to replace the window, was really interesting to me. Yes, I am now starting to hear the noise outside, even the slightest sound enters my ear. I would completely agree that windows should be soundproof.

Do you actually have any more tip on how to maintain your windows? Like you said, I think, might need the replacement, but, if we do get new ones, I would want to know how to care for them Thanks for the advice. I am going to check my windows now.

Thank you for pointing out that windows are designed to open effortlessly, so if ever they become hard to open, then that is a telltale sign that it needs replacement. The living room window needs an awful lot of force to open, and I am afraid that I might break it every time I try. Getting it replaced never occurred to me, but now I do think that it is the only option. I’ll call window professionals ASAP.

I was very surprised to learn that a good window will absorb the sounds from outside, especially energy efficient windows! My wife and I recently moved into a new house, and we can hear every noise of our kids playing outside in the backyard! I will be sure to look into hiring a professional to get us some new windows at our house!

I agree that you want to consider replacing your windows when you can feel a draft coming from them. It would make sense to get new windows to help keep your energy bill down. My husband and I have been noticing that our energy bill has been rising more than normal, so we’ll have to see if replacing our windows would be a good option.

Replacing your windows can be a start to lower your energy bills but you may also want to check your A/C it may need some maintenance, i’d like to mention that our estimators have Infrared scanners and they can tell you exactly what may need to be replaced.

I never took into account that rising heating a cooling bills could be caused by faulty windows. I’ve been having that problem, so it sounds like I may need help with that. Do you have any tips for finding a great window and glass contractor in my area?

I appreciate it when you said that the windows need to be replaced if the person needs to use a hammer or force their way to just to get it to open. Actually, that is my concern since we have kids in the house. What if a fire broke out, and we couldn’t get out because the windows are sealed shut? It might really be for the best that we get them replaced.

I didn’t know that an energy-efficient window could also dull outside noise1 I have had construction on my street before and it was a racket! I think I will do some more research into replacing our windows. Do you have any more tips on picking a good window contractor?

I appreciate that you explained that hearing the noise outside means that the windows need to be replaced because a good window should be soundproof. With that in mind, I will tell my husband to contact a professional to replace our windows this month. This is because I can’t sleep in the afternoon due to kids playing outside. I need my sleep because it is what my doctor recommended.

Thank you for explaining when windows should be replaced. it’s good to know that an energy efficient window will absorb sound waves outside your home so it should be somewhat quiet in your home. Maybe it could be good to test the windows by opening them to see how much of a difference it makes to the sounds outside.

I appreciate it when you mentioned that feeling cooler air near the windows or feeling a draft indicates that heat is escaping through them and we are wasting energy. My sister mentioned that she feels air enter through the window in the living room, so this got me. I guess now I know the reason why the energy bills suddenly spiked a few months ago. It might be best to call a professional to have all the windows assessed and replace the ones that need to be replaced.
