When To Replace Your Siding
“The siding on my home looks…decent, but does that really mean I need to replace it?” This is just one of many questions homeowners frequently ask when trying to decide whether or not to replace a part of their home.
Just because it doesn’t look as fresh as the day it was installed doesn’t necessarily mean your siding is ready for replacement. There are however a few telltale signs that it definitely needs to be replaced, some of them include: frequent painting, terrible energy efficiency, damage to the siding, rot or mold, and peeling paint or wallpaper inside the home.
If your siding is severely faded, bubbling, or in need of repainting more than once a decade, it probably has to go. With most types of siding, (with the exception of vinyl) it should keep its color for at least 8-10 years. If you find yourself outside painting every summer, or every few years, that is a huge sign you should think about replacing it.
Beyond just needing a couple new coats, you may find the siding on your home to have actual damage. I’m talking about rotting or warping, cracked panels, loose panels, holes, dry rot, and fungus/mold. These are all blatantly obvious problems to the naked eye, and if left unchecked can start to compromise the integrity of other parts of your home as well. Mold spreads (as do insects if you have wood siding), and the holes, cracks, and all other structural damage to the siding can severely reduce the energy efficiency of your home.
If cold and hot air are easily able to penetrate your home’s first level of defense (the siding), all the other pieces of the house have to work harder. If you notice the heating and cooling bills rising, without any obvious drafts or hot/cold areas inside the house, faulty siding may very well be the cause.
Another fairly common reason homeowners decide to replace the siding is simply aesthetic. They simply may not like the way it looks anymore, and that is as good of a reason as any to upgrade the siding on your home. With all of the options out there (vinyl, steel, wood, fiber cement, James Hardie, etc), you may find something you like way more than your current siding. Here at Conservation Construction, we have any option you could dream of. Many homeowners rely on attempting to replace the siding on their homes themselves. Let me tell you that is typically the worst option.
In order to install replacement siding so that it is wind/waterproof and so that it looks right, it usually takes an experienced professional. Our expert installers at Conservation Construction of Texas are of the best in the industry at getting the job done right.
So if you are looking to replace the siding on your home because of some of the problems I have mentioned, or just because you are looking for a change in appearance, you cannot go wrong by calling Conservation Construction of Texas.

I’m glad you mentioned that having poor siding can cause other areas of your home to work harder, like the HVAC system. My siding was perfectly fine until we had a mischievous woodpecker pound a hole in it. We need to replace it, but obviously want siding that will not be damaged easily by any animals. Which material looks best, but is strong against puncturing?

Cedar Ridge Siding can be a option, its a hard long lasting material the can detour your mischievous woodpecker.
